Are you surprised that Kwame Kilpatrick got booded at the Detroit Red Wings celebration at Hart Plaza?

When the Detroit Red Wings celebrated their 2008 Stanley Cup Championship at Hart Plaza, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick spoke to a group of Hockeytown fans. When he got up to speak, the whole entire audience booed at him and as a result, he cut his message short. Are you surprised that Kilpatrick was booed at by the audience of Hockeytown Fans. Why or why not. =============================================== Here are some YouTube videos of Kilpatrick being booed at that could help you answer you question; http://youtube.com/watch?v=084ar6Sqj_o&feature=related http://youtube.com/watch?v=D3FT4X5OxFo&feature=related http://youtube.com/watch?v=OpGz7KlO8nE&feature=related http://youtube.com/watch?v=L_3LVhSvZng I am very surprised that Kilpatrick even showed up to the event because Detroiters and citizens in the Metropolitan Area do not like Kilpatrick right now because of what he has done to Detroit and I am just wondering why they did not just send the Wayne County Commissioner instead of Kilpatrick. Everyone who participated gave good answers. Before I chose a Best Answer, I would like to say everyone gave good answers and I enjoyed reading your viewpoints.

Public Comments

  1. I am not surprised at all. I am a native Metro-Detroiter, and I think everyone feels betrayed by Kilpatrick. He deserved to get booed off the podium and just like you, I was shocked he even showed.
  2. he thinks he is above the law and is impervious to rules, laws and regulations that we ( as average citizens ) abide by King Kwame has big gonads
  3. surprised by boos? nah, surprised no one threw booze bottles, yeah. Kwommy went because Mike Ilitch publicly asked him to attend, and like it or not, Kwommy is the Mayor until he isn't. If I was him I would have attended, but would have kept my mouth shut.
  4. I'm not the least bit surprised that the crowd booed him. What i am surprised about is; the crowd did not throw things at him, and that he decided to show up to the event. I bet the beer he stated that's on him, will be purchased with tax payer money.
  5. not surprised at all, he's a thief.
  6. I am not surprised he was booed. He is not a popular figure in the Detroit area right now. He is not going anywhere and everyone should just move on. He is a politician and has thick skin. I would think the majority of the people that booed did not vote for or against him. I am not surprised he showed up. The owner did the right thing by inviting him. His matters outside of this celebration can be put on hold for the time it takes to deliver a minute pep talk to a crowd. It really was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
