  1. Hi gitipl85 I did a bit of research on this site which has 74 listed hotels, not all in your favoured area , but close enough. Detroit : http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com/United-States/Detroit/ . For these peak demand dates it may not be best to wait until the last minute, when deals usually kick in. I'd book in advance. Go to the maps section and you'll see a Google search box on the map where you can relate hart plaza to nearby hotels . There are a couple such as http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com/United-States/Detroit/Milner-Hotel-Detroit/ [ a 2 star budget hotel ] or http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com/United-States/Detroit/Omni-Hotel-Detroit/ , a 4 star but realistically you have a lot to choose from.
  2. Marriott at the RenCen which is next to Hart Plaza. Fort Shelby Doubletree is another downtown. The Westin Book Cadillac is at the high-end of the hotels. All three of our casinos (MGM, Greektown, and Motor City) downtown have hotels if you want some extra fun. There's a Holiday Inn across from the Book Cadillac. There's quite a few to choose from. All of them are either downtown or ~2 minutes from downtown, none are "in the slums".
  3. Probably the best choice would be the brand new hotel at the Greektown Casino they have rooms for $99. http://www.greektowncasino.com/Hotel+and+Visitor+Info/Hotel+Info/ The Marriot at the Ren Cen is $139 http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/dtwdt-detroit-marriott-at-the-renaissance-center/ Prices may go up when you get closer to the event so I'd book early. Both locations are within walking distance to Hart Plaza (Marriott is closer) or you can take the People Mover.
  4. Connie is giving you some good advice. If you're on a tight budget and want to stay at a place which will have a lot of other techno fans, you should check out The Milner. Not a luxury hotel, but they've cleaned up their act quite a bit. It is inside a little downtown enclave named Harmonie Park and is within stumbling distance from a couple of bars and a People Mover (tram) stop. http://www.milner-hotels.com/detroit/index.html However, be warned, DO NOT under any circumstances stay at The Leland ... urine in the hall, vomit on your bed and short curlies on your pillow.
